Grandpa’s Lab is composed by a team of researchers from various artistic fields such as fine arts and digital arts that create simultaneously virtual and tridimensional environments. We use time-based media narratives to create multimedia and interactive projects for culture, entertainment and advertising.
We work at the convergence of art, technology and design. Our process ranges from conceptualization all the way through to the final installation.
Grandpa's work can range from interactive performances and installations, to stage design projects for events and festivals.
How to feed 9 billion people by 2050, that’s the challenge of TFF Global Summit. The 2015 edition toke place in sunny Lisbon at Convento do Beato.
Alongside with the outstanding girls of Oupas! Design (www.oupasdesign.com) we designed this event that brought people from all over the world to Portugal. The theme was all about space travel, and rushing young minds to the moon, a metaphor to the goal of the event. The 40mts wide, cardboard wall, was the division of the dance floor and the conference area. On the dance floor side, the wall was all covered with video, using seven 12K projectors and a led pixel-mapping circuit that started from the dj booth, the spaceship.
On the wall was presented a story, based on the author Julio Verne, where the spaceship travels along different surreal and dreamy scenarios. The sound fx was made by Pedro Marques (www.jumpwilly.com). As soon as the spaceship was landed, the party began, and we vj’d on it the rest of the night.
Another feature on this event was the interactive installations on the entrance hall, all developed with the kinect interface.
